oh, look at all the new icons... Greg M. is not coming. Mike D. needs to play goalie for someone and he is a good player. Mike W. hasn't committed yet so, it still looks like 4 or 5 people from the East. We'll arrive riding in my short bus...

Mike D. was my p at the last tourney on the 29th. He knows exactly what he's doing back there and has a good enough 5-bar in case the forward player begins to exhibit symptoms of "Acute cranial-rectal inversionitis"http://www.netfoos.com/forums/posting.php?mode=reply&f=56&t=2983# The only reason he's still available is because Tim's Y's anniversary is this weekend (which I told him to cancel...posting.php?mode=reply&f=56&t=2983#) Mike gets on net foos every now and then, but y'all better tell me something soon about a potential pairing for him. I'll see him Thursday night at our regular weekly event. BG & LG, Dates would make a fine p for Mike McLeod...just sayin'!

Bama that sounds good for ur "main event", maybe ur 2nd tourny could be like just $10 or $15.

I like the sign up sheet , hopefully with 3 events to pick from it won't get to close on a 3 way tie or anything.

Its come to some of our attention that some of the newbies do not understand the guidelines for a pro/am.... So basically a pro/am is a byp to where IF a pro wants to play he can only play with an am. But in saying if 2 am's want to play together the sky is the limit, but the pro does have a limit. So if u want to play, and no pro's are avaible u are not out of luck! Just play with whoever u want!

What are the parameters than define the term, "Pro" ? I'd like several people to chime-in on this... Is it strictly over 1800? The reason I ask is because of recent discussions I've had where it seemed "tournament experience" played a significant part of the equation. I'm not too keen on this for two reasons: (and I'm only being hypothetical here...) 1) Tim Yelverton, for example may or may not be under-rated. The last time I brought him, he finished 2nd after an absolute meat-ball cage match against BG. At that time, my rating for him "hovered" near 1800. Fine-, except, he's constantly golfing and hunting and when he does show up to play he's out of practice and his rating reflects it. He doesn't care (thanks for the rating points, Tim) because he just likes showing up once a week and "knockin' em' around with the fellas". We know he's an old-school bad-ass and he's relaxed and just fine with that. (I get mildly irritated because I like to play and watch him when he's at his best. Same with Greg M., and they've been playing in tournaments {and against each other} for 35+ years.) My point is, "it's nobodies fault" that we have to rely on the ratings. He hasn't really practiced, but he is constantly playing in rated events and his drop in ratings reflects him getting beaten. 2) The poster-child lettered in chess, yes chess, in high school (football in college you little bichez posting.php?mode=edit&f=56&t=2983&p=14839#) and I played in chess tournaments from the 5th grade all the way through 1995. I own 160 Chess-theory books and I still play on line every day. The rating system used for chess is the exact system used for foosball and it's called The Elo System. VERY accurate statistically, especially after you've been rated 20 times. But, unlike the The U.S. Chess Federation where every tournament played in the U.S. is rated on ONE DATABASE, foosball doesn't have this because we don't have a strong national federation.(do we?) The individual clubs are left with the (responsibility?!) option to rate the events and many times this is haphazard or incomplete. (I recently played in a BYP in Baltimore, MD. When I got there, they were very cordial and wanted to know about us, etc. The thing I noticed was how they never rate their local events. So & so is a pro... I was told and it's obvious they were- plus, they all knew Paul Renken. But could they dominate BG, Tim, Greg M., Chancey, Glidewell, Billy? I doubt it, but that's not to say they wouldn't get their share of wins... The thing is this, - I, like many others, like to be rated for the simple fact of charting progress and analyzing your competition. So, because they didn't host an ITSF sanctioned event they don't rate and I didn't really mind. BTW, I went two-and-out and tried to sneak out before getting noticed... That was a strong ass club! My second point is I've been attempting to streamline the ratings from FTW, PNS, MOB, and Wildwood for 18 months in anticipation of foosball growth along the Gulf-Coast.(of course this statement encompasses other flammable issues) That's why when we mix clubs at events it is super healthy for the ratings pool. This is why I either double rate the events, or in the case of the next tournament it will simply be rated as an FTW/MOB tournament just like the last one was. A-Mac, this is why your rating reflects a couple of points of separation between different locations. For everyone else, this is why we said that if you're not on OUR database, FTW/MOB, please don't attempt any last-second drama for any future events. I've been building this database and diligently been maintaining its' integrity for a while and this is the one I think we should use from now on. It's statistically "ready" but somewhat incomplete as far as "amounts" of players. Maybe another synchronizing with Wildwood is in order...So, I'll ask y'all again, "what is a pro?"
