I just had an idea to help promote foosball at the local level and also at the regional tournament level as well. I’m just throwing the idea out there in case others have some comments on it.
Assumptions:
The local tournaments want to increase player turnout. Perhaps the best way is to increase what players can win and cash and prizes. Also, the regional tournaments want to increase player turnout so they can have more competition and fund their venture. Perhaps the best way to increase their turnout is to get people talking about it at the local tournament and give players more incentive to attend the regional events.
Proposal:
Perhaps a regional tournament (such as the upcoming Orlando tournament that I plan to attend and want to convince others in my group to attend) would want to donate discount certificates to the winners of my local community tournaments. For example, maybe donate a $10 discount to the winners of my local tournament each week which will serve to reduce the regional entry fee for people who win the certificate. The discount certificate will only be valid for a particular regional tournament and only for the person who won the certificate. For example, say during the course of the next few months I won $20 in discount certificates therefore my entry fee for the regional tournament would be $20 less if I carried though with my plans to attend. In this particular case this doesn’t help the regional tournaments because I was planning to attend anyway. However, say a few other players that didn't know about the regional tournament or were not planning on attending also won some discount certificates. They now have added incentive to go to the regional tournament and use their discount certificates to reduce their entry fee. I think a balance could be reached where it was in the best interest of the regional tournaments to offer these discount coupons especially since the certificates would surely get the local communities talking about the upcoming regional event each week the discount certificates were handed out to the winners. It would also benefit the local communities because people would have more incentive to compete at the local level and also have more incentive to attend the regional tournaments. Everybody wins!
