Hey guys,

We've been running since may of 2007 with a beginner tourney before the regular DYP every Saturday, and I'd like to know if you guys would like to see a little change.

For people that go to Tour events or larger events around the state know that Singles is a big part of the game, and I for one would like to get more experience in real matches in this aspect of the game.

How would you guys feel about we try out having Singles in place of the beginner tourney for a while? We could even try every other Saturday, but I think at this point it's not the beginners that come out sometimes that keep our foosball going. It's you long time players and regulars as you know.

Don't get me wrong, I like the beginners tourney and it was good when we got alot of people out for it before, but personally I think change is good and I noticed foos locations around the country incorporate singles tournies on certain days of the week also. Plus I plan on going to more IFP Tour events and certain tournaments around the state where Singles is a good part of these events, and I like what I've seen amongst the high ranked players in singles at these events.

I think it should be for the normal 5 dollar entry, so you are playing for something instead of just entry into the DYP. This is not a beginner singles, by the way, it would be OPEN singles.

I'd appreciate any feedback on this matter and if you would like to show up for singles.

Thanks guys

John

P.S. What do you guys think about Wednesdays? It's been dying off so would you think a different day of the week would work better or are you just not interested in foos on the weekdays at strikers?

Hi John,

Modifying the tournament to meet the types of players there sounds like a good plan. We can always bring back the beginner tournament as more beginners start playing again. Plus, practice for singles is definitely something we can all use =).

Also, what we did a while back too was to switch from a beginner tournament to a High/Low type tournament that all players can play in (like we did originally in the normal DYP's when you all first started). This may be a good second option if you get too many players to get a singles tournament done in time before the 9pm tournament. Just an idea =).

As for other tournament nights, here are some ideas...

- Maybe we could try getting Premier Billiards going on Wednesday nights?

- Or, maybe we could even try getting Premier going on Friday nights after the Murphy's league is done -- Murphy's has almost become unplayable on Fridays as they are now blasting music so loud you can't even think and play foosball. If we did this maybe we could have Murphy's league (or regular DYP's) on Wednesday nights (or some off night for Murphy's so that it isn't so loud).

Let me know what you guys think about this (as well as John's ideas too).

Thanks,
Mark

John, Mark

Great post, John. I like the idea that Saturdays can have a singles and/or a High/Low DYP and that change is great for each location to keep things fresh.
You have my vote for a singles event! I enjoy singles anyways due to its challenges plus no one except yourself to blame.

I made mention about a High/Low DYP a while after coming back from Salt Lake. Mike Sierra and Lorraine Hough run a pretty clean tournament over there and it keeps the comp tight. You got my vote on that one as well, if there are too many for singles.

Mark, Thats not a bad idea regarding Wednesdays at Premiere and scratch Tues.

Murphys - We all feel the same about the table mistreatment there. I personally like going to Murphys, but like you said Mark, lately its become unplayable. They did try to lower it last Friday, I think!!

As for Fridays at Premiere, another decent idea although minimally another table is needed if we start. We still have a couple more months for this league to finish so we have time to make up our minds. Right !?

Thanks for the comments Craig.

Jen, Mark and I were discussing a special singles tourney I'd like to have where we'd kick in money to get more players out. My goal is to have the pot be a good size so the winners will get a good payday for this one. We will discuss this on saturday and get some players feedback.

I'm looking at one of the days in March before we go up to the O-town tourney.

Hi Everyone,
I think the singles tournament instead of the beginners is a great idea. I would love to be able to practice singles against other people other than Henry. Lately, he is the only person I keep drawing in the DYP Rolling Eyes . As far as Friday's, I don't like going to Murphy's, so we don't make a huge effort to go. If it were at Strikers or somewhere similar we would probably go more often.
