Hahahah! Great job guys!!!

Here are the results (except Open Singles & Open Dbls) for the IFP Superbowl in KY this past weekend: First, Grant must have carried Adam H to do so well in the 3500 out of 29 teams! Grant and that other forward he carries, Mark Winker, didn't do too shabbily, either. They tied for 5th & 6th out of 60 teams in Handicapped Doubles!!!! What happened to Darren Miller & Jim Dumas? Wonder how Jeff Maddux did... and did Henry or Jeff Kobol go, too? Didn't Bernard, Brian Costello or Phil DiPatrizio go too? I see my old Tampa buddy Will Brooks did well in the 3500 ( 7th & 8th ) with Ken King. And old old old Dave Johnson's still shamelessly sandbagging in Amateur. Otherwise.... where're the others? Hopefully they did well in the Open. <- FoozKillah

As expected, 2 of the 5 best all-around players in the world won Open Doubles again: Billy Pappas and Tony Spredeman, and did a 1-2 in Open Singles, too! Not too shabby for my buddy Will Brooks... 7th & 8th in the 3500, which Adam and Grant won, and 9th & 12th in Open Dbls!!! Note that Johnny Horton IS BACK, just like Jim Dumas said. taking 3rd in Open D!! Kudos to my New Yawk bro Jim "Snap-Crackle-Pop" McKenney, too, for taking 3rd in the 3500! (btw.. other three best are Terry Moore, Frederico Collignon, & Robert Mares..)

There were a couple of highlights of our event.

The first was that Adam was hesitant to play with a higher ranked player because his game was a little off during the weekend. He didn't want to bring a good partner down. Therefore he settled to have me, a beginner, as his partner :D .

Our strategy was feed the forward. We worked on passing drills before we started play. I know how everybody always complains about how Adam grabs loose balls during our local tournaments but he took things to a new level during the 3500. Our opponents uttered words like “grabs everything”, “magnet”, “freaky aura”, “luck”, etc.

The strangest thing happened during the end of final game of the second match in the finals (i.e. the most important points in the biggest game of my life). Adam started smiling and joking around as if we were just there to have fun or something. I was worried because I was thinking “come on get serious Adam we can’t start joking around now” but I just kept my thoughts to myself. Anyway, there were a couple of quotes that are way too funny that I just have to share. Keep in mind that these comments occurred during the final points of the third game in the second match as we were trying to double dip the team that sent up to the losers bracket.

During the middle of the game Adam called a time out with the ball on his three rod. I was wearing that shirt I have with those flames on it.
Adam: You want to win this one?
Grant: Yeah!
Adam: OK next time the other guy has the ball on his three rod I want you to shake your men real fast as if they were on fire just like your shirt (big grin by Adam).

The next quote happened at 3-3. Adam just pulled off a wicked pull to make it 4-3 and the pull shot happened just as somebody took a picture. Adam looked over and grinned at the guy taking the pictures and said with a grin “Did you get that one”. I was starting to get worried because Adam was having way too much fun.

With the score being 4-3, Adam got the ball back on his three rod and called time out.
Adam: Come on man do you want to win this one?
Grant: Yeah
Adam: OK then TAKE the shot!
Grant: Um, but, I don’t think
Adam: haha, just kidding.

Anyway, the Adam’s shot didn’t go in but shortly after we got the winning goal as Adam was swatting at it with his 5 rod (we won 5-3). I was relieved because Adam was starting to have way too much fun. My brother said Adam was grinning during the last game while he was taking his shots as if he knew he was going to win or something.

I talked to Adam about it afterward because I was wondering what got into him and he said it was just fun to play in a game that that was important. Now that I think about it that is a good way to think about it because all I was doing was being nervous and worried about making mistakes. The silly comments kind of lightened me up a bit. Next time I am in a big match I will remember to enjoy the moment. However, maybe not quite as much as Adam did :)
