Some requests on the next Rookie & Beginner Challenge. Why don't you guys make the first Open DYP an Open Pro-Am DYP? Use their IFP and/or WTSF rankings and split the entries down the middle & draw?
I believe that would be the best way to have all the rookies & beginners get the benefits of a good draw. They'll get to play with a stronger or more experienced player, work on teamwork, and the matches should be even more of a dogfight with no pushover beginner-beginner teams.
Another way is to make it an Open Roto Draw... I've seen it in action in three states, & it really trains you to become an all-around player. Otherwise, if a natural forward and natural goalkeeper get trapped in reverse position & can't score to switch, they have to scrap and I've seen teams much stronger on paper upset by weaker teams that learn to play with each other.
I mean, isn't that the idea of the Rookie & Beginner Challenges? I can't say enough about how draws in my past with stronger players have helped me so much to see just how many different ways to play and succeed in foosball. Even in your Rookie & Beginner events, the same stronger rookies always end up winning.
If you guys could generate enough serious rookies & amateurs like the alternating DYP BYPs in the mid to late 90's like Mike Cody & Kim Byron did, you would get a steady cadre of what, 30-50 regular players, maybe more? You're at 10-12 real regulars right now, and turnout can be very seasonal, but this series could make it a lot easier to promote South Florida Foos! Much more than having more and more of those South Florida Opens. They are nice, but the time and nonpeace of mind and just all the hassles must kill you and your crew!
