|
i noticed NETFOOS is capable of doing pro-am DYP's but the ELO system is not functioning.
can anyone tell me how to set up a pro-am dyp?
do i manually enter local points for everyone or an ELO point base?
where does amateur end and pro begin?
if i wanted to use netfoos to help me determine a point spot for handicapped singles is it possible? |

Rob, I have added access to the Elo Developmental Link on your NetFoos account. All you need to do is log into the NetFoos Admin, click the "Admin Modules" link in the bottom left side links, then click the "ELO_Points_Calculations_1_9" link on the NetFoos Admin Modules page.
From there you can generate reports for all your players as well as individual player reports based on the various "Settings". You can leave all the "Settings" in their default values for simplicity, or you can play around with them a little to see how changes effect the points.
There are numerous items I could cover about this, but I figure I'd leave that part to any questions you may have for now =). Please let me know if you have any questions at all -- also, please keep in mind that this is still in development so there may be some bugs, etc. Lastly, it isn't set to auto update your players points yet, thus if you decide to use it you will need to update the players "Local Points" manually (in the future I plan to have this automated). NOTE: The "Local Points" are used to qualify the Pro/Am draws (top 1/2 of points are "Pro", bottom 1/2 are "Am").
One more thing, please let me know what you think after you have had a chance to play around with it for a while as I'd really like to hear what you think of things so far.

Use the "Local Points" to assign points to your players, it will automatically put the top 1/2 in the "Pro" section and bottom 1/2 in the "Am" section.

You will need to manually enter the "Local Points" for all your players as well as manually update them. In the future this will be automated. For the Elo Point Base, this is a bit tricky to describe as it is there are numerous variables involved with determining this. For now you can leave it blank -- also you can play around with it to see how it effects player's points. Once this the system you want to use is developed, you should never need to update a player's Elo Base Points once they have been assigned this number (for example, you may assign them their IFP points at the time they entered your tournaments for the first time as their Elo Base Points).

For this it is completely up to you. It will depend on what level players you have, etc. (Lawrence Berndt, if you are reading this maybe you could fill in some details on how you are using the system.)

Currently there is no system to determine a point spot built into NetFoos, it simply gives you the team/player score differentials and from there you can use your system to assign point spots. Maybe somewhere down the road we'll add in a version of this system, but that is likely a ways off.
Hope this helps a little and hopefully Lawrence can chime in here as he's been using the NetFoos Elo System for a little while now =).

Thanks Mark that answered all my questions.
i understand ELO is still in development if i run into any problems i can write a killer bug report
i beta tested for micro$oft, AOL and countless PC games.
my question about point spots was more about seeing a differential in points than the software actually giving me the number. never even thought about that.
for the elo point base i was thinking of basing it of USTSA or IFP points
lets say i have a rookie ranked player and an unranked player that are very evenly matched if i used the USTSA ranking in elo base for both would it take less historical data to get an accurate standing?
i do plan on messing around with it before asking to many questions.
thanks again for everything and keep up the great work.
i would offer to help in some way but i haven't touched C++ or Visual Basic since 1991 |

Using the player's USTSA or IFP points at their Elo Base is a great way to do it for starters. The key to remember is you set their base points to what the player is the day the start in your NetFoos system. For example, if a player is a 1000 rookie when they start in your system and they move up to a 2000 pro in a few years you shouldn't need to change their Elo Base in NetFoos -- unless they only played a limited number of times locally and their local points didn't move up (in cases like this you could adjust their Elo Base in NetFoos).
Let me know how things go and I look forward to hearing what you think.
