IN A NUTSHELL - HOW THE PRO/AM TOURNAMENT WORKS
On this forum at the top are "sticky" posts where we list guidelines for tournaments, post results, calendar of events, tournament flyer, etc. Sticky posts stay at the top and should not be replied directly to. Posts should be made separately.
You receive points for showing up and points for 1st-4th place in the Pro/Am Qualifier Tournament, see "Tournament Flyer" sticky post. The tournaments are "double draw" which means it's like two tournaments in one. On one side it's a Pro/Am and on the other side it's open draw - we're trying to provide something for everyone. On the Pro/Am side you draw according to your rank. If beginner, you draw pros, or top rookies if not enough pros. On the other side of the tournament it's an open draw where everyone has an equal chance to draw whomever - if two beginners draw each other in that they get a point spot. Many states, possibly most, only have a single draw tournaments. The way we do it we believe it helps the newer players learn and stay excited about foosball, strengthens amateurs, rookies, and pros, and allows for more actual playing time.
There are trophies for Player of the Year for beginner, amateur, rookie, & pro, and trophies for the qualifier finals events at the end of the season. Lower level players are allowed opportunities to win throughout their development as a foosball player, and we believe this is helpful to grow the player base. The first Tuesday of each month is what we call "Shake & Bake," which is a bring your partner on one side and open draw on the other - again, trying to offer something for everyone.
We hold out some money each week from the Tuesday Pro/Am that goes toward the pot for the "Qualifier Finals." Only those who have played in at least eight Pro/Am tournaments qualify for entry in that event. The qualifier weekend at the end of the season consists of events for all, however.
Keep in mind that Mike and myself are only volunteers and are doing our best to provide something for everyone. We also have the open Saturday night tournaments and specialty events for those not interested in the Pro/Am. It's not a "perfect" system, but the majority appear to be happy with how things are done. If you have ideas for improvement, complaints or upsets, in order to get them handled quickly, and in order to give us a chance to work things out we appreciate and encourage you call Mike Sierra directly at 561-0611. While the board is here for everyone's use, it can't replace one-on-one immediate two-way communication. You may also address any concerns, ideas, or ways you would like to help out to grow the sport of foosball in Salt Lake at the player's meetings.

Lorraine Hough THE AUTHOR'S INTENTION FOR THIS STICKY POST IS INFORMATIONAL ONLY - PLAYERS WISHING TO POST ON THE BOARD SHOULD DO SO WITH A SEPARATE NON-STICKY POST. |
