Bring Your Partner Back to Murphy's...

Forum focused on the foosball community in South Florida including Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton, West Palm Beach and all of South Florida.

Postby Mark on Sat May 03, 2008 12:01 pm

After some talking with Murphy's management they are officially going to be adding in $50 to a featured tournament once a month, with the plan of adding in to the regular weekly tournaments as well as we work to grow things there again. My thinking is to use this featured tournament to bring the BYP's back to Murphy's so we can have the $50 added into our BYP's (normally the BYP's at Strikers are simply 100% payback as they don't add money in on Fridays).

This will also bring help show our support for Murphy's as lately we have only been having 2-3 tournaments a month there -- this extra tournament will make a big difference at Murphy's while only taking away a very small amount from Strikers. I'm also really pushing to go back into our "corner area" where the beer pong tables are and maybe if we can grow things over the slow summer months we will be able to do that (this way we wouldn't need to re-level and move the tables every week).

Hopefully this sounds like a good plan to most of us, please let me know if there are any issues with this that I am missing.

Thanks,
Mark

Wow they are going to add 50 bucks. Rudy's adds $200 on saturday nights. No wonder you guys have weak tournaments.

Yea, you guys over in the Tampa area have it made. Tampa is one of the best spots in the country to play -- make sure you thank Diaz for all he does for you guys and all the pros who show up each week to make it happen =). I know every player here wishes we had that kind of competition every week here!

Thanks, I thought it was kind of easy. I only had like two tough matches during Amatuer singles (Platt and Eddie M.) Im going to texas 23-26, I want to win rookies -semi singles. Before Kentucky tourn, becuase Im not sure if I will like Warrior tables. If i dont like the table then Im done with foosball for good.

Hey John L.,

Is that you, Lehmann? You must have really ticked off Greg when you beat him.

The $50 is commensurate with the competition. Rudy's tourney has the advantage of being centrally located between Tampa, St. Pete's, and Clearwater. Not to mention not being too far from Orlando.

If we build out and progress, having only had a year or less to grow, compared to Rudy's 10 years or so, our venues should also be able to offer the chance to play monster competition, which brings the draw and brings out the players wanting to learn and get experience. I'm also quite sure that if Bud Murphy's owner was a Hall of Fame legend pro-master like Boz, he would have no problem increasing or even matching the prize money. Or we need a rich angel, who's into the game.

Perhaps we can get to where the bar matches the entries.. which I've seen in a lot of places, even with only one pro or several good expert/semipros. But we'd have to have 8 to 15 teams regularly, which bar owners love to see.

So you're still a regular at Rudy's? You been knocking off PM's like Boz, Ino, Yore, Green, and the dozen or so pros and high experts regularly? Man, that must be so much fun and a great learning experience. But all we can do is work on our games and our weeklies. Several are now turning up at tournaments again, especially IFP ones, so that's a start. Our resident PM, Michael Cody, retired, and Mike Green shuttles between here and your area, Scott O'Hare moved back, Mike Yore's pretty much an Orlando guy, Adam Horowitz is in semi-retirement, and Gary Gold's just starting his comeback. Even Brian Costello's needing some shoulder work.

And as to Warrior tables: if they add new life to your pull shots, pull kicks, pushkicks and your ability to defend snakes, wouldn't you at least consider them? (Goal 1/4in narrower, less effective spray shots - especially razor snakeshots, solid rods, men's feet are same width, but no beveled edges - giving you practically a wider foot by two grid lines for the "shovel" effect squaring your shots better, and a more forgiving ball for catching passes?)

What nights are the tournaments at Murphy's and the other place. I"v been thinking about maybe making a trip down south. I played goalie for Diaz tonight and we spanked Ino,Capagna and Lurie, partner. We only had 9 teams. I'm coming down there for I think its what the 5000. O ya Greg was alittle mad I think. My game is better than it ever been by far.I spent the last couple of months working on blocking and shooting from the back.My 5 and 3 bar are on fire.Talk to Diaz about warrior tables tonight and he said from what hes heard,is that they play just the same pretty much :?:  It defenitly helps to play against Yore, Star,Mike, Diaz, Ino, and even against lurie(specially on the head game with Lurie  )

That's a great idea!

Tell us when you guys decide to go, so we're sure to make it that night!
And thanks Mark, that was a quick sideslip with the info!
It's always great to have good incoming competition.. Makes weeklies even more worthwhile.

I will bet that whichever tournament can get 1 or 2 Warrior tables to play on in a weekly, whether it's Bobby, Mark (here), Jim (O-Town), or Chris & Hugh (Jax), that venue will get several visitors to check out the table and test it out for organized play. This would definitely draw quite a few, whether it would be an all Warrior table event or a mixed Tornado & Warrior event.

That would be a pretty nice happening for our four main regions of play. Especially as August and Kentucky 08 gets closer! Since all five foosmongers play the tour regularly or try to, Even one non coin-op temporarily brought to the venue (we all have several pickup-driving players who would help) would do gangbusters AND of course help Bobby, Jim, Mark, Chris & Hugh and their friends get a jump on everyone else in Florida.

Wait a minute, that's not such a good thought.... Maybe it's time I bought a new non-Tornado table made by a golf company, similar to the one played on by my Cali buddies... maybe it's time to make a roadtrip with my pickup to visit Cali, where half my highschool buddies live and work.. and a half-dozen of our old South Florida regulars... And I'd get a Legend table light for it, too!

Hey John L.,

:  Yeah, take it easy on poor ole Moose... He's been honing his topside, then his nearside passing, and how not to get lazy and establish the rollover long shot on the topside, instead of settling for the 3/4 release point. We've been having some great sessions at the Brass Ring Pub during the week.

Would be nice to see how much you've improved. The names I keep hearing from your tri-county side are Lurie, his daughter, and the Yores.. Tampa used to have all these monster rookies & semipros who were like secret weapons! What happened? Poker?
